Celebrate National Library Week at the University Library!

National Library Week begins on Monday, April 15, 2013, and will include
a week long celebration of our nation's libraries and librarians.
Several events have been planned by the University Library to celebrate
the week. Prizes will be given away each day through the library's
social media and by visiting the University Library Circulation Desk in
themed attire. The following is a detailed list of the events planned
for the week.
Week Long Events:
Game of Thrones Raffle— Enter to win the
first four books in the Game of Thrones series and the first season on
DVD. Raffle tickets are available at the University Library Circulation
Desk. You can enter once each day.
Book Drive for Children’s and Women’s Hospital— Bring children’s
books to the Main or Biomedical Libraries to be donated to the hospital

Giveaways—The 500th person to like the University Library will win the
Night Angel Trilogy and prizes will be given for every 10th like
Monday, April 15:
Hat Day— Wear any hat of your choice and
come by the University Library Circulation Desk and you could when a
gift card, coupon or another one of our great prizes. The hat can be
simple or just plain crazy.
Tuesday, April 16:
Student Organization Day—Wear your
favorite organization apparel and visit the University Library
Circulation Desk for an opportunity to win a cool prize
Wednesday, April 17:
Tacky
Day—Come by the University Library Circulation Desk dressed in your
tacky attire! Those that get the most into the tacky spirit will win
prizes
Thursday, April 18:
International Day—Pick your favorite country and represent! Prize winners will be selected by the Circulation Staff
Friday, April 19:
Jag
Pride Day—Grab your best campus swag and head to the University Library
Circulation Desk to show off your school spirit and win prizes
* Silent Auction and Reception scheduled for Wednesday, April 17,
2013, has been cancelled. This event will be rescheduled for a later
date.

Common Read Program
The University has chosen Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn as the book for its Common Read/Common World program to take place during the 2013-2014 academic year. Half the Sky addresses the problems caused by the inequality and oppression of women in the developing world.
The University Library, in support of this program, has purchased ten copies of the book and placed them on 7 Day Library Reserve, meaning they can be checked out for a week. These books can be found at the library's Circulation desk and have the following call number: HQ 1236.5 .D44 K74 2010.
In addition, the library has also purchased eight copies of the dvd, Half the Sky. These are currently In Process but will be placed in the Instructional Media Center on the First Floor North.
